If you take 2 years to develop an application, by the time you are done, the problem the application was supposed to solve has completely changed and your solution is useless.

I am thinking that health care reform is going to end up much the same way. Congress/Obama is biting more than they can chew. They are trying to drop in this huge reform bill that will change everything without really knowing how any piece of it will affect the system as a whole.

We need to treat health care like an Agile project. In Agile methodology there is this idea of sprints where basically the whole team picks one issue to address and they all drive towards the goal of fixing that one issue. Once that issue is fixed, you move to the next issue and so on. This methodology leads to getting more useful solutions to the customer in less time.

I think we should use this methodology to fix health care. First, get a set of metrics that actually make sense. For example average insurance costs, number of uninsured people, level of care, etc. Then, implement one small (non-trillion dollar) improvement. Measure again, and repeat. It would be great, we would know what was helping and what was not and we would be able to provide solutions more quickly.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-48082203906446583692008-10-24T05:37:00.000-07:002008-10-24T05:39:29.371-07:00Change We Need? This from the website of the church that Barry Obama attended for many many years. Basically it says that media outlets should be forced to cover opposing view points in equal quantities. This doctrine was in place from 1949-1987 when they finally woke up and realized if violated the First Amendment.

If you go down to the section titled "Support for reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine" it says that 31% of the people believe that websites and blogs should have to follow these rules. I realize that is not a majority, but it is still scary. Looks like they are trying to destroy the First Amendment now.

I just don't understand people's willingness to give up rights so that the government will take care of them. This is a pretty clear example of "Oh, I don't want to learn the facts myself, so I want every to be required to tell me both sides." How far are we going to go before people realize that freedom is a good thing.

There are things that must be sacrificed for freedom. It is not just lives of our brave soldiers, but there are also things we must sacrifice in our personal lives. We must as a nation be willing to sacrifice our innocence, and take responsibility for our own lives. Just as we must be responsible gun owners because we are given the right (at least for now) to bear arms, we must be responsible critics of the information we are given from the media outlets because we have freedom of speech. If the government is a constant filter protecting us from our own irresponsibility, our growth as a people will be completely stifled like an overprotected child that never learns to care for themselves. Do we really want to live our lives as children of the government?Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-60282742676068283452008-10-14T10:31:00.000-07:002008-10-14T10:32:25.003-07:00Freakin CommunistI think this one really speaks for itself.

Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-53838980360068188242008-10-08T06:53:00.000-07:002008-10-08T07:25:47.596-07:00Salvation Through Belief in ObamaIt would seem that Obama's powers now extend to redeeming terrorists. To summarize: Ayers was a terrorist, but he stopped, so now he is cool. This is something that has been annoying me for quite some time. Now, I am no economist by any means, but as Glenn Beck would say, I am a thinker. This concept to me seems a little like pouring batter in the oven to make a cake and hoping that a pan magically forms around it so it won't make a mess. I fail to see how raising taxes on the corporations and people that provide jobs and stimulate the economy with investments is going to promote growth in the economy. Where do these people think that the jobs come from? If a company's taxes are increased, that means their bottom line is now smaller, now, if the company is worth anything it is going to have to cut cost. I am pretty sure that many companies would choose to cut their work force; it is just kind of one of those things that happens. A company’s soul purpose is to make money, not to help people or make the world a better place. If you take from their bottom line, they have to make cuts somewhere. Cutting taxes on the middle class doesn’t really help that much if they don’t have a job with a salary to tax in the first place!Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-2839605382063244152008-09-24T10:15:00.000-07:002008-09-24T10:25:25.682-07:00The Audacity of RealityAll I can say is REALLY? Is he forgetting that she has been governor of Alaska, which I'm pretty sure is more complicated than running a campaign, for longer than he has been in the senate. When are people going to wake up and see him for the corrupt, self serving politician that he is? Also note that the majority, are IS which means they have not been approved by committee yet. If you take a look at the ones with ATS, I don't know about you, but I feel so much better about the security of our country and the effectiveness of our government. I know our country is a much better place now that the congress has decided to congratulate the Chicago White Sox on winning the 2005 World Series Championship. The following is a list of all the really important legislation that Obama has sponsored that has been approved:

1. To congratulate the Chicago White Sox on winning the 2005 World Series Championship.
2. Recognizing the historical significance of Juneteenth Independence Day and expressing the sense of the Senate that history should be regarded as a means for understanding the past and..
3. Designating July 13, 2006, as `National Summer Learning Day'.
4. Whereas Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson was born in 1939 to Bishop W.A. and Mrs. Mary Patterson, Sr., in Humboldt, Tennessee;
5. Designating July 12, 2007, as `National Summer Learning Day'. ( I guess he changed his mind about what day should be National Summer Learning Day, it's a good thing he moved it.)Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-89920961152941688022008-08-27T07:15:00.000-07:002008-08-27T07:28:05.910-07:00I Feel So DirtyI watched Hillary's speech last night because I figure it is a good thing to know your enemy. I must say it was pretty awesome. I even cried, I couldn't believe it. I was sitting there listening to a freaking socialist and there I was getting a little teared up. I feel so dirty, but when she said that her mother was born in a time when women couldn't vote and now her daughter was able to vote for her mother for president, that was pretty powerful. That is American progress at its finest.

I guess I just don't understand why they talk about all these people that have over come the odds and lived the American dream and then in the same breath say that America is broken because people can't live the American dream. Why is it the Obamas were able to pull themselves up without help from the government, and yet they insist no one else is capable of doing the same thing?Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-16069930526486408132008-08-26T10:19:00.000-07:002008-08-26T10:29:36.797-07:00The Middle Can Be GoodI have been doing a lot of thinking about the election these past few days as Michelle Obama took the microphone at Democratic convention and tried to make everyone believe she wasn't as cold and bitchy as she comes off. I decided that this country could do a lot worse than McCain. Not just because Obama is a socialist, but because I think McCain might actually be the middle ground this country needs. The conservatives don't like him because he is too liberal and the liberals don't like him because he is too conservative. Most of the time, the best course of action lies somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. Almost never it is a good idea to take the extreme way as Obama seems to be. Other examples include, any fundamental religion, overeating, under eating, anarchy, etc. Perhaps the fact that he makes both sides just a little uncomfortable is just what this country needs to build true unity. It certainly will not come from the extremes as the Democratic party is trying to make us believe.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-2087057713030716702008-08-21T06:20:00.000-07:002008-08-21T08:06:59.543-07:00Freedom is Lost to the Sound of Thunderous ApplauseAnd so it begins, or well comes to a head rather. Once again our wonderful free country is giving up freedoms out of fear. This time apparently, it isn't even a real enemy. The liberal fear of destroying the earth one polar bear at a time has led to the nation wide guilt fest if you don't recycle. Of course guilt seems to enjoy company, so now everyone must be forced to feel guilty for not saving the polar bears.

The last time I checked, the whole point of a free country was that we were able to do what we want as long as we are not infringing on the rights of others. This would imply otherwise:

"There are also new federal and state proposals to snoop on citizens in our own homes. California is considering a plan to police the temperature settings on residents' thermostats. The feds are checking on the flush capacity of our toilets and the kinds of light bulbs we use."

I really don't feel that the temperature at which I set my thermostat should be subject to ridicule or fines, or for that matter inspection in the first place. Whatever happened to the 4th amendment? Why don't they go ahead and just make sure we aren't breaking any other laws while they are at it. Perhaps we need legislation on what TV shows you should allow your children to watch. Maybe they should check our pantries and refrigerators while they are at it to make sure we are only eating foods deemed healthy by the state. Wouldn't it just be wonderful if the state were able to protect us from every poor decision we could possibly ever make. Obviously people are not capable of making the good decisions on their own, we need to be forced to do so.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that trying to respect and protect the environment is a bad thing in and of itself. I just want to be able to make the choice of whether or not I participate in activities that may or may not help the environment. Let's not forget in the 70's everyone was convinced the earth was cooling down, so really I could be helping the earth by turning up my thermostat.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-70265513505433954052008-08-18T12:28:00.000-07:002008-08-18T12:38:15.064-07:00The DentistI had dental surgery on Friday to receive some implants. For those who don't know this means I had some titanium screw drilled into my jaw bone. It sounds really fun I know. For some reason, they convinced me that I did not really need to be sedated. The dentist's wife was sitting in front of me saying that she had done it without sedation and it wasn't that bad. I now believe this to be a lie. When the dentist broke out the hammer and chisel, I knew I was in trouble. There is nothing better than the sound of steel on steel resonating through your entire skull. Let that be a lesson; always opt for sedation.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-10789094435494482292008-08-12T13:20:00.000-07:002008-08-12T13:24:19.558-07:00Destroying Their Country One Child at a TimeThis little girl that was too ugly to sing is going to have some serious issues. It was lots of fun though, and I totally want to do it again.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-29785053252324648532008-07-18T11:50:00.000-07:002008-07-18T11:51:48.577-07:00I want it now!I ordered my iPhone last Friday. When it comes to new gadgets, I have little patience.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-9199067167144823762008-07-17T06:42:00.000-07:002008-07-17T06:51:38.310-07:00Indiana Blue?I am not really sure how I feel about this. On one hand the idea of putting a very conservative democrat with Obamallama would have its benefits if the unthinkable happens and our country elects a socialist. The idea of having Bayh waiting in the wings and giving Obamallama advise gives me some comfort and hope. On the other hand, having Bayh as his running mate might actually be what Obama needs to get elected. It would bring in the more conservative base and possibly even turn Indiana blue! I have always been so proud of living in a red state, but Hoosiers really have it bad for Bayh. I guess it is a good thing that this is not up to me, I don't know which scarier, Obama with Bayh, or without.

Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-7619784488867592042008-07-11T12:24:00.000-07:002008-07-11T12:26:58.668-07:00But I thought Apple was Perfect? It looks like the role out of the iPhone had some problems today. I will still buy one.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882106617734469121.post-59771463768314055912008-07-10T08:07:00.000-07:002008-07-10T13:35:25.988-07:00How to Herd HummingbirdsYes that is correct, herding hummingbirds.

Step 1: Realize hummingbirds have very small brains and will not get out of the garage on their own.

Step 2: Swat at the hummingbirds with a broom once again overestimating their intelligence thinking they will be smart enough to figure out they can't fly through the ceiling.

Step 3: Acquire a basket.

Step 4: Pry the hummingbird off of the door with basket.

Step 5: Freak out when the hummingbird starts flying in the basket and hits your hand.

Step 6: Walk basket out of garage.

Step 7: Go back for the second hummingbird because apparently one dumb animal attracts another.

Step 8: Almost kill hummingbird while trying to capture it in basket.

Step 9: Freak out again because they sound like really big bugs!

Step 10: Walk second dumb animal out of the garage.

Seriously, dumbest bird ever.Ms. Ahabhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09552247636505451200noreply@blogger.com0
